Dermot the Banana thought that being a lifeguard would be the best job ever. With his snazzy orange shorts and perfect bright white teeth he thought he would fit right in with the lifeguards on the beach. But becoming a lifeguard wasn’t as easy as Dermot had imagined.

Tom Mackewn, Lindfield resident, and 2018 bursary winner, has recently embarked on his own adventure to become a children’s author and illustrator. Following a successful career in children’s TV animation, you will now mostly find him sketching and colouring in the corner of Lindfield Coffee Works. Tom is now working on his second children’s book, Fizzlefix the Naughty Wizard, as well as printing a range of children’s clothes and gift items with his illustrations.
