Performance

Rocking Rok Skool Showcase

September 17, 2019 //  by Lynn//  Leave a Comment

There’s a cacophony of singing from Rok Skool.

First off at 1.30pm in the URC Nave is Voxy Music. A six piece vocal group, 4 ladies and 2 guys. Accapella with occasional guitars and musically directed by Hereward Kaye.

Only been going a year but storming forward, with great versions of The Chain by Fleetwood Mac and The White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army, amongst other classics. A happier or more harmonious bunch you will never find!

Neatly followed at 2.00pm by Sister Sister. A six piece A Capella and acoustic all-female vocal group with a repertoire that includes everything from Take That and Ed Sheeran to Bob Marley and The Flying Pickets, ably led by Musical Director Hereward Kaye.

The ladies are proud to have reached the Southern region finals for Gareth Malone’s TV programme the ‘Naked Choir’ and the final of ‘The One’- but mostly enjoy entertaining the people of Lindfield with their unique blend of voices and singing styles.

And last but not least at 2.30pm, The Larynx. The Larynx is the epitome of Lindfield Primary Academy’s community spirit. A PTA tour de force that started life within the playground walls. School run chatter between parents conceived the idea of an all singing, all dancing choir open to all parents, grandparents, teachers and staff . The idea proved popular and in April 2015 The Larynx was born.

Since then the choir has grown in confidence under the guidance of director Hereward Kaye. With an eclectic repertoire ranging from The Beatles to Talking Heads, this friendly neighbourhood vocal group comes with a serious health warning: listening to them may do you some good!

A bit about the company:

  • Hurly Burly offer new audiences positive and exciting first experiences of opera with the aim of inspiring a lifelong relationship with classical
music. The company was formed by classically trained singers Sarah Forbes and Catherine Carter following a commission from Celebrate
Voice Festival in 2016 to create a piece of theatre for babies. Hurly Burly creates interactive theatre for young audiences with existing
classical opera and song at the core of the work as well as incorporating physical theatre, improvisation, movement and spoken word. The
company create live performances that allow children and their grown- ups to engage and interact with classical music in an entirely age
appropriate environment with the space and freedom to experience and explore as individuals

Cellophane Live Art Installation with Sarah Gillings

September 8, 2019 //  by Hannah Smith//  Leave a Comment

At this years Lindfield Arts Festival there will be a Cellophane Live Art Installation outside Abbott’s chemist, in the High Street on 21st September. Sarah Gillings is a an award-winning multimedia and street artist who will create a wonderful street art piece using Cellograff. Cellograff is a technique where cellophane is stretched between any available support making paint ready surfaces, in this case Lindfield’s iconic Lime trees!

Cellograff provides the artist the freedom to create murals in a variety of new locations without the restriction of needing a wall. The translucent nature of the plastic adds a fascinating layer of visual complexity to the mural. Sarah’s Cellograff interventions typically involve inserting British wildlife into unexpected settings.

So come along and watch Sarah create a wonderful street art piece using just spray paint and cellophane wrapped around two trees!

More information about Sarah’s work can be found on her website here, her Instagram here or her Facebook page here.

This event is from 10:00am to 4:30pm on September 21 on Lindfield High Street

Hand Bell Ringers

August 27, 2019 //  by Caroline Smith//  Leave a Comment

A handbell is rung by grasping it by the handle and moving the wrist, causing the clapper inside (which is on a hinge) to strike the outside of the bell, producing the sound. … Ringers can then put down and pick up bells as they are needed, and they can also use the tables themselves to create other effects.

Bells are polished frequently and occasionally sent back to their makers for tune-ups (literally) that involve grinding small bits of bronze from the bell to maintain the proper sounding pitch and overtones. But the primary way to keep bells safe from tarnish is to wear gloves when handling them.

Come and see the Lindfield Handbell Ringers again.

Time: 11am-11:30am

Date: Saturday 21st September

Location: URC Lounge

Jack Blackman

August 17, 2019 //  by Hannah Smith//  Leave a Comment

With three albums under his belt, and stints with Paul Jones and The Blues Band, and more recently with Tony Joe White, blues guitarist Jack Blackman is quickly establishing himself as a standout musician, songwriter and performer. He has performed his songs all across the country and as far as the Mississippi Delta and received accolades from the likes of BBC Radio 2s ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris, who described his guitar playing as ‘exceptional’ and folk guitar hero Martin Simpson who marvelled, ‘At last! A brilliant young guitarist coming through’,

A rapidly rising star of the blues guitar, singer-songwriter Jack Blackman provides original contemporary blues numbers flavoured with folk and country (elements of Dylan and Tom Petty in the mix too) for a highly original fusion of styles underpinned by his accomplished guitar playing and his smooth vocals – which one reviewer described as “reminiscent of Squeeze’s Glenn Tilbrook” – and songwriting hooks.
